Benoni, Camiguin Province- The Department of Transportation (DOTr) conducted a project inspection and turned-over of the DOTr funded project for CY 2018, the Benoni Port Development Project- Construction of Back- up Area to Philippine Ports Authority – PMO Misamis Oriental/ Cagayan on 29 March 2023.
Representatives from the Department of Transportation – Region X namely, Mr. Dennis M. Albano, Mr. John Paul E. Payabyab, Mr. Edward C. Reyes, Mr. Evalrich D. Adajar, together with representatives from the Philippine Ports Authority – Port Construction and Maintenance Department Engr. Nancy S. Silva and Engr. Mira Grace C. Durano and the PMO MO/C Personnel participated in the said event.
The implementation of DOTr funding allocation of P29 Million project cost covers the construction of 8,876 square meter concrete paved back-up area. This project at the Port of Benoni, Camiguin Island which started on 19 January 2019 and was scheduled to be completed on 06 September 2019. However, due to the global pandemic, the construction was suspended. It was then completed on 06 May 2022.
The Port of Benoni caters to domestic vessels and handles rolling cargoes, fuel, bottled and general cargoes. It has direct and regular voyages to Balingoan. Through this port development project, it is expected to generate more jobs for the local residents and improve economic activities of the Province. Further, the port will be able to cater to more domestic vessels that can accommodate large number passengers, alleviate berth congestion, and improve the port operations efficiency.
