On 7 September 2023 at 2:00 PM, PMO Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro and its Terminal Management Offices (TMO) conducted earthquake drills participating in the Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) for the 3rd Quarter of CY 2023.

PMO and TMO personnel including personnel from the cargo handling service providers, porters, passengers, vendors, port security personnel, port users, port locators and other government agencies and port stakeholders performed the “Duck, Cover, and Hold” position during the simulated strong earthquake signaled by the activation of the building fire alarms and sirens. Subsequent evacuation drill was executed following buddy system. Participants converge at the designated evacuation area were injuries accounted and personnel head count was done. While ocular inspection was conducted to check damages of the building/facilities. Communications and security protocols were also tested during the drill. A total of 556 personnel, 464 from the Baseport and 92 from the Terminal Offices, participated in the 3Q-2023 NSED.

The Quarterly Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) aims to promote public awareness and regular disaster preparedness response and recovery exercises for earthquakes. The purpose of which is to encourage disaster preparedness and awareness among all citizens. The PMO MO/C’s participation in NSED is an opportunity to evaluate the effectiveness and utility of the Offices’ reaction, recovery, and contingency plans, as well as their coordination and communication mechanisms during response operations.
