Cagayan de Oro— The PPA (Philippine Ports Authority) PMO (Port Management Office) showed its support for Women Empowerment as part of the Women’s Month celebration by actively participating in the TOURISM INTEGRATES SUPPORT AND MINDS WOMEN’S RESPECT AND CHILD SAFETY SEMINAR (TourISM WorCS) at Dynasty Hotel Cagayan de Oro on Tuesday, February 07, 2023.

Representatives from Travel and Tour Agencies, Land Transportation groups, accommodation establishments, LGU (LOCAL GOVERNMENT UNITS) CDO, and 5 personnel from the PPA PMO formed part of the 40 participants who graced the event. There was a total of 5 speakers from different government agencies who shared their knowledge and expertise during the seminar.

The seminar aimed at promoting awareness of sexism, domestic violence, and other challenges that women confront every day. Resource speaker Atty. Lea Aurora P. Samaco, highlighted 3 topics which are RA No. 11313 (Safe Spaces Act), Republic Act No. 9262 (VAWC), and Republic Act No. 9710 (Magna Carta of Women).

The PMO MOC had lined up a series of activities for this month-long commemoration to increase public awareness of women’s rights and the battles they have waged for equality. On March 8, the personnel of PPA MOC watched a Facebook Live Event at GAD hall with the theme, “Breaking the Code. Equality for All through Technology and Innovation.” The Facebook Live discussion focused on policies and initiatives that can be supported to advance women’s rights in ICT, technology, and innovation. The dangers and vulnerabilities of online dating are also covered. Proved that in #DigitALL, #WEcanbeEquALL is achievable. On top of that, the movie “Hidden Figures’ was also live streamed in connection with the issues of racial injustices and gender inequality. Flowers were also given to the female passengers at the Passenger Service Terminal to make them feel empowered and recognized.

The legal foundations for the National Women’s Month celebration in the Philippines include a proclamation issued in 1988 by then-President Corazon Aquino. To show support for the said celebration, the PMO MOC was mandated to wear purple clothes every Wednesday and participate in the upcoming activities for the whole month.
