Envisioning more automation at the ports and in order to provide comfort, convenience, safety and security for all port users and stakeholders shipping and withdrawing cargoes to and from the Port of Cagayan de Oro, a 6-lane Electronic Gate Complex was constructed at the Port of Cagayan de Oro.

The newly-built facility was inaugurated on 15 July 2019 led by DOTr Secretary Arthur P. Tugade. The launching gained high attendance rate by PPA officials led by PPA General Manager Jay Daniel R. Santiago and Port Managers from different Port Management Offices nationwide;  DOTr officials; and representatives of partner maritime agencies.

The Gate Complex will be fully-equipped with CCTV cameras for easy identification and security purposes, weighbridges, electronic gate system to complement the Electronic Payment System and Electronic Permit System, payment booths, among others. A separate gate was also designated as a portal for over size/heavy lift cargoes. The Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro plans to incorporate in the future the use of RFID for vehicle recognition.

The infrastructure that has 6-lane controlled access to port users is built to address the long queuing lines and to decongest the roads towards the cargo gates/ port entry point. Traffic congestion has been a perennial problem that makes roads unsafe and inefficient for passage and use by cargo laden trucks/chassis. These obstructions are causing undue delays in the delivery/transport/loading of cargoes, increased port stay time of vessels and low port productivity. The said Gate Complex as the new cargo portal for the Port of Cagayan de Oro is wide enough and strategically situated, making it accessible and free from obstruction.-IMR Lam
