To acknowledge and thank the seafarers for their contribution to the world economy and for their continuing service amid the pandemic, the PPA Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO MO/C) joined the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) and other agencies in maritime and transportation industries in the celebration of the Day of the Seafarers on 25 June 2021.

This year’s theme, “#A Fair Future for Seafarers”, aims to shed light on the issues relevant to the seafarers’ working conditions, fair treatment, among others, and to enjoin the governments globally to support them towards their fair future.

In participation to this annual observance, PMO MO/C joined the Philippine Coast Guard and other port stakeholders in the simultaneous blowing of vessel horns in the Port of Cagayan de Oro and the dressing-up of ships.  PMO  personnel distributed bottled refreshments to seafarers of vessels docking in CDO Port and the Terminal Port of Opol and to the tugboat operators. Meanwhile, vessel crew who were transacting in for vessel clearance were given free face masks and bottled alcohol.

The observance of the Day of the Seafarers began in 2011 spearheaded by the United Nations-International Maritime Organization (IMO),  to pay tribute to the seafarers around the world.
