In a resounding show of commitment towards combating human trafficking, the Port Management of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro took part in the International Day Against Trafficking event held at SM CDO UPTOWN on December 12, 2023. This significant occasion brought together various government agencies and advocates to raise awareness and collectively address the pressing issue of trafficking, particularly focusing on minors and children.
The event commenced with a warm welcome from Mr. Zosimo G. Butil, the Protective Service Division Chief of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Field Office 10. Following the welcome address, attendees were privileged to hear an inspirational message delivered by the Department of Justice (DOJ) Regional Prosecutor Merlynn B. Uy.
One of the event’s highlights was the showcase of success stories by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) through its programs DOLEkula and DOLE Success Stories. These initiatives aim to combat child labor in the country, shedding light on the positive impact that dedicated efforts and interventions can have on the lives of vulnerable children. The success stories served as a beacon of hope, demonstrating that with the right support, education, and awareness, it is possible to break the cycle of child labor and trafficking.
With the PMO MOC’s active involvement, alongside other key government agencies, the event served as a testament to the ongoing efforts to combat human trafficking, protect minors, and create a safer and more secure environment for children across the region. The success stories shared during the event inspire hope and reinforce the importance of sustained efforts in the fight against trafficking and child labor.
