The Port Management of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO MOC) attended the National Maritime Week (NMW) 2023 Awarding Ceremony and Closing Program, held at SM Uptown on September 29, 2023. This grand event celebrated the maritime industry’s vital role in the Philippines and recognized the contributions of various organizations and individuals.

 

The program commenced with an invocation followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem, a symbol of unity and pride for the nation. Atty. Angelica C. Mortola delivered the opening message. Her words were filled with gratitude and inspiration, emphasizing the importance of the maritime industry and the collective efforts of all involved. The program took a lively turn as Capitol University presented an intermission number, showcasing the immense talent within the academic community. The performance was met with applause and was a reminder of the diverse skills present in the maritime industry.

 

The highlight of the program came with the announcement of the winners of various competitions. PMO MOC proudly stood out, with their exceptional accomplishments. The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA), under the capable leadership of Port Manager Bong Butaslac, secured several prestigious victories. The PPA team emerged as the champion in darts, table tennis, fun golf tournament, and table tennis single female categories. Their achievements demonstrated not only their skills but also their commitment to teamwork and excellence. The PMO MOC team also earned recognition as first runners-up in the table tennis male and mixed singles competitions, further underscoring their remarkable sporting abilities.

 

The Apostleship of the Sea added a colorful vibe to the event with a splendid intermission number. Their performance captivated the audience, showcasing the rich maritime heritage and culture of the Philippines.  As the program commenced, the symbolic turnover of the NMW banner took place, signifying the transition to the 2023 NMW Host Agency, the Philippine Coast Guard. The event was a testimony to the seamless collaboration among various agencies that work together to ensure the maritime sector’s success.

 

To conclude the program, CG COMMO Vincent Bingbong D. Fiesta from the Philippine Coast Guard delivered a heartwarming closing message. His words reinforced the importance of the maritime sector, not only in terms of economic growth but also in its role as a lifeline for the nation.
