Cagayan de Oro City- The Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro PMO MOC joined the City’s Parol Making Contest which was launched on Dec. 10, 2023.
The Pre-judging was done on the same day and final judging will be on the 19th of this month. With no criterion on the material to be used, the PMO being true to its commitment as an environmentally friendly Agency and as awardee in the Green Port Award System, the makers of the Parol used segregated solid recycled materials often seen and collected inside the Passenger Terminal Complex, such as plastic bottles, junked pieces of steel and rubber. Walis tingting and Ginit from the coconut tree were also used to meet the criteria of being sturdy, structurally stable, and weather resistant. But above all, the walis tingting is a symbol of the humility of the makers.
The Holy Family is made of plastic bottles and ginit, clothed with Malong cloth, a traditional Mindanao costume. The boat which serves as the anchor of the star represents the PPA as it continues to sail towards greater excellence in its services. The display of the parol is at the Cagayan de Oro River Boulevard and will run until the end of December 2023.
