Cagayan de Oro, Misamis Oriental – December 03, 2024 – The Port Management of Misamis Oriental (PMO MOC), in coordination with the Department of Tourism (DOT), conducted a special training session aimed at enhancing customer service skills among the port’s security personnel. Held at the GAD Hall today, the event was participated by 43 security guards and security screeners from PMO MOC.

Maria Reina O. Bontuyan, a resource person from DOT, led the session and explained how the FBSE program can uplift the tourism services in the country by promoting the unique Filipino way of hospitality as a brand. The core objective of the program was to instill and propagate the Filipino Brand of Service Excellence across various sectors, particularly for frontliners. Bontuyan emphasized the importance of applying the 7M of Filipino Values in delivering excellent service, which includes: Maka-Dios/Maka-Maylikha (God-centered and creation-respecting), Makatao (humane and compassionate), Maka-Kalikasan (environmentally responsible), Makabansa (nationalistic), Masayahin (joyful and positive), May Bayanihan (spirit of unity and cooperation), and May Pag-asa (hopeful and optimistic). These values were specifically tailored to the security personnel’s roles, helping them improve their customer-relations skills while embodying the essence of Filipino hospitality.

This training is part of PMO MOC’s continuous efforts to enhance customer relations and improve the overall port experience. As frontline workers, security personnel are often the first point of contact for tourists and travelers. Improving their interaction with passengers is essential in creating a positive experience, contributing to the port’s reputation and the broader tourism objectives of Misamis Oriental.

PMO MOC’s management underscores the importance of customer service in its #SeaportTravelExperience initiative under the leadership of Acting Port Manager Fernando Mapalo Jr, which aims to create a seamless, pleasant, and welcoming experience for everyone who passes through the port. By aligning with the Filipino Brand of Service Excellence, the port is furthering its commitment to providing high-quality service while also promoting Filipino hospitality.
