In support to the Philippine Commission on Women’s 18-day campaign to end violence against women and children (VAWC), and in consonance with the celebration on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women 2018, PMO MOC conducted an orientation seminar on RA 9262 “The Anti-Violence Against Women and their Children Act of 2004” on Nov. 28, 2018 at PMO Building 2 GAD Hall.
With the 18-day campaign’s theme, “VAW-Free Community starts with Me,” the orientation was participated by the various port stakeholders including the PMO MOC regular personnel, representatives from the Philippine National Police, and LGU representatives from Barangays Puntod, Macabalan and Lapasan.
The resource speaker, Atty. Ruby Malanog, of the Department of Justice- Region X, discussed the highlights of the RA 9262, the different forms of violence that affects women and children, the protections they can avail of, sanctions to the perpetrators, among others.
With the PMO’s thrust of promoting awareness to fight against any form of gender-based violence, and as an active member of the Regional Inter-agency Council Against Trafficking (RIACAT), the PMO MOC shall continue to conduct and support activities towards the attainment of a VAWC-free port community. — By PGMBudiongan
