Cagayan de Oro City (Baseport) – The Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO MOC) conducted a disposal of hazardous waste generated for the year 2024 at the Port of Cagayan de Oro on December 27, 2024. The initiative was facilitated by the PMO’s Environmental Specialist, together with personnel from the Engineering Services Division (ESD), the Administrative Services Division (ASD), and the Port Services Division (PSD), ensuring proper handling, documentation, and adherence to environmental safety standards during the process.

Moreover, the hazardous waste to be disposed of includes used oil, busted bulbs, confiscated lighters, and among others. These items will be transported through a Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-accredited transporter and likewise be properly disposed ensuring compliance with environmental regulations.

The approach to conduct the disposal of hazardous waste at the Port of Cagayan de Oro, is in full compliance with relevant environmental regulations and standards, including Republic Act (RA) 6969 or also known as the Toxic Substance and Hazardous and Nuclear Waste Control Act, Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC), Integrated Management System (IMS), and PPA Orange Book, particularly at Section 2 – Environmental Management in Ports and Section 3- Management of Port Generated Hazardous Waste. By adhering to these standards and regulations, the PMO demonstrates its commitment to environmental stewardship and responsible waste management at the Port of Cagayan de Oro.
