08 August 2022, Cagayan de Oro City— In celebration of the 55th Founding Anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), the Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro joins the rest of the PMOs nationwide in a simultaneous flag-raising ceremony on Monday, 08 August 2022. This year’s theme is “ASEAN Youth: Embracing Identity Towards and Empowered Future,” in line with the ASEAN’s declaration of 2022 as the “Year of ASEAN Youth,” that particularly focuses on ASEAN youth as well as ASEAN Identity and Community. This also emphasizes the unity and synchronized efforts of its members amidst the challenges of the 21st Century.
The ASEAN was established on 08 August 1967 and consisted of the following countries: Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, and Thailand. As one of its founding member-countries, the Philippines joins its celebration every year and affirms the organization’s contribution to its economic development, especially in foreign relations. Thus, the Philippine Ports Authority, under the Department of Transportation, takes part through a nationwide simultaneous flag-raising ceremony. All PPA personnel, compliant to the minimum public health standards, witnessed the raising of the ASEAN Flag after the regular Monday flag-raising ceremony.
