The Philippine Ports Authority Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro, together with the Philippine Commission on Women (PCW), Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), Local Government Unit (LGU) of Cagayan de Oro City, and other agencies joined the Regional Inter-Agency Committee Against Trafficking, Violence Against Women and Children, and Anti-Child Pornography (RIACAT-VAWC-ACP-10) in the kickoff event of the 2022 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women held last Friday, 25 November 2022 with the theme “United for a VAW-Free Philippines”.
The activity commenced with a Motorcade that started at the Rodelsa Circle/Rotunda going to Kiosko Kauswagan, Divisoria, where the opening ceremony was held. This campaign aims to increase awareness of the types of violence that women and girls face, provide information on laws intended for their protection, and highlight VAW-related services that people can access and use. By upholding the commitment to address all forms of gender-based violence is enshrined in the 1987 Constitution, the Philippine Government is able to achieve its goal of defending the human rights of women and girls. Governmental organizations and agencies are required to promote awareness about the issue of violence and the elimination of all forms of violence against women and girls.
The 2022 18-Day Campaign to End Violence Against Women will run until 12 December 2022. –JTIbrahim
