Diligence and patience: the two anchors relied on by the Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro in remaining steadfast and resilient amidst the challenges of 2021, exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic and its variants. Conducting tree planting activities, providing support to government-initiated programs, and being the recipient of prestigious awards are just some of the accomplishments presented during the PMO’s Division-Level Yearend Conference for 2021.

This quality tradition is held every January of the new year with the purpose of evaluating and reviewing the accomplishments during the previous year, assessing the performance of each division/TMO versus targets and objectives, validating compliance to the Office Performance Commitment Review (OPCR), addressing issues and concerns, and formulating corrective plans of action for pressing concerns. The Divisions and Terminal Management Offices were also able to present their plans and programs intended for 2022 and other important matters aside from the agenda.

Each Division/TMO was assigned a specific date and time for their presentation, and all were presided by the respective Division Managers. The conferences started with the Terminal Management Offices (Balingoan, Camiguin, and Opol) and the Port Terminal Complex on 19 January 2022 and ended with the Administrative Division on 31 January 2022.

As shown by the performance of each Division, MOC was able to achieve goals and carry out plans and programs despite the challenging year.  The Port Services Division was able to maintain sustainable port operations, to which the PMO was garnered with the Green Port Award by APSN (APEC Port Services Network). Webinars that increase employee productivity and promote a healthy working environment were also conducted by the Administrative Division in lieu of social gatherings and group activities.  Infrastructure projects were also established by the Engineering Services Division such as the rehabilitation of the Amenity Building at the Port Terminal Complex. The Port Police were prompt in monitoring and implementing health and safety protocols declared by the IATF, especially during the constant changing of quarantine restrictions. The Finance Division was able to collect revenue despite the difficulties brought about by the ongoing pandemic and was able to efficiently manage budget utilization. All these accomplishments prove that diligence and patience pay indeed off in the end.

After each of the scheduled conferences, PM Butaslac encouraged all the Divisions and TMOs to participate in the Procurement Planning Session which is to be scheduled within the first quarter of the year.  Through this, all personnel from the top management down to the administrative staff will be able to learn and comprehend the technical process of procurement, which was improved to ensure efficiency and promptness of planned programs and projects for 2022 and the succeeding years. -BCAcedera
