CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The Philippine Ports Authority Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO MOC) marked the 161st birth anniversary of the national hero, Gat Andres Bonifacio today, November 30, 2024, by actively participating in the commemorative program held at the Community Amphitheater, Plaza Divisoria, in Cagayan de Oro City.
This year’s theme, “Pagkakaisang Pilipino: Pundasyon ng Malaya at Maunlad na Bayan,” emphasized the enduring importance of unity among Filipinos as the foundation of a free and prosperous nation.
The commemoration began with a solemn program in the morning, where various local government officials, national government agencies, civil society organizations (CSOs), non-government organizations (NGOs), and people’s organizations (POs) gathered to honor the legacy of Bonifacio, the founder of the Katipunan and one of the most significant figures in the fight for Philippine independence.
PMO MOC’s participation was marked by a deep commitment to remembering the sacrifices made by Bonifacio and other national heroes in the quest for liberty.
A key highlight of the event was the Executive Wreath Laying Ceremony, which was conducted with full military honors, a 21-gun salute, and the playing of “Taps” — a poignant tribute to the heroes who fought for the country’s freedom.
The PMO MOC joined in the Mass Wreath Laying, a significant moment in the program that brought together a broad coalition of civic, government, and military stakeholders. With officers and personnel from uniformed services standing in solidarity, the wreath-laying symbolized the unity of the people of Cagayan de Oro and their shared commitment to preserving the values of freedom, equality, and justice.
The event concluded with a sense of renewed hope and patriotism, with all participants pledging to continue the work of building a free, united, and prosperous Philippines for future generations
