The Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO-MO/C) has successfully implemented Oplan Biyaheng Ayos: Kapaskohan 2017 on 18 December 2017 to 08 January 2018 in compliance with the DOTR directive and as part  of the Agency’s continuing commitment to ensure the security, safety, comfort and well-being of  the riding public in time for the holiday season.

PPA PMO-MO/C in coordination with Maritime Industry Authority, Philippine Coast Guard, PNP Maritime Police, local government units, port stakeholders and other response agencies set up   HelpDesk Centers manned by the respective personnel in the spirit of volunteerism.

The occurrence of Tropical Storms, Vinta and  Tropical Depression Agaton, which hit Northern Mindanao area on 21 December 2017 and 01 January 2018, respectively, compelled the Philippine Coast Guard to withheld clearances of vessel to sail, resulting to a number of passengers seeking shelter at the Passenger Terminal Buildings in Cagayan de Oro, Balingoan and Benoni.

A total of 131 stranded passengers were accordingly provided with the needed assistance at the height of the weather disturbance. PPA employees contributed out from their own pockets certain amount of money for the food and other provisions to the stranded passengers.

Overall, Oplan Ligtas Biyahe: Krismas 2017 was a resounding success without any reported untoward incidents. — By JA Pacturan
