The Christmas lantern (“Parol”) entry of the Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro lands at 2nd place in the recent Indigay sa Parol, a Lantern-making Contest launched by the City LGU of Cagayan de Oro City spearheaded by the City Tourism and Cultural Affairs Office on 02 December 2019.

Various government agencies and offices were enjoined to participate in the contest. The top three (3) winners were awarded on 06 January 2020 during the flag ceremony at the City Hall.

The PMO MO/C received a trophy and cash prize.

The Port of Cagayan de Oro, as a Green Port recognized by the APEC-Green Port Award System, pursued a Parol entry which was made from recyclable materials particularly plastic wastes (e.g plastic bottles, plastic utensils). Repurposing recyclable wastes is one of the PMO’s projects under the Solid Waste Management within the ports.  The PMO’s parol highlighted the touch of gold, which represents the City of Golden Friendship’s “Pasko de Oro” Festival. Its center was the Holy Family in Bethlehem or the “Belen,” which symbolizes what Christmas is all about—the birth of Jesus Christ.

The PMO MO/C has been also initiating contests among its offices on “recyclable” Christmas trees and lanterns for the past years. This is a manifestation of the PMO’s ardent commitment towards environmental protection. —by IMR Lam
