The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) through its TMO in Opol has been invited to participate in the Adopt-an-Estero Program for the Municipality of Opol. The Department of Environment and Natural Resources-Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) and the local government unit (LGU) of Opol have identified three waterbodies for adoption: Buncalalan River, Calinob Creek, and Macajalar Bay-Opol. Alongside government offices and private establishments, respective barangay units in Opol are also involved in the program, with PPA Opol being assigned to Macajalar Bay-Opol.
The program aims to foster public-private partnerships in maintaining clean waterways. By engaging surrounding communities and establishments, it seeks to sustain the cleanliness of these water bodies. A well-attended meeting was held, resulting in enthusiastic discussions and a fruitful outcome.
PPA was represented by the PMOs Environmental Specialist-PCO, COS personnel-Envi, and the TMOs Terminal Manager.
On March 22, 2024 (9:00AM), the signing of agreements among invited government agencies and private establishments in the municipality will take place. To kickstart the program, a simultaneous COASTAL Cleanup drive is done for March 23, 2024 (6:00AM), where different sectors will clean on their assigned adopted areas. THis is also in celebration of World Water DAy as per 1992 United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) in Rio de Janiero
