Cagayan de Oro City — In solidarity with the nation’s seafaring community, the Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO MOC) proudly took part in the 2025 Day of the Filipino Seafarer celebration held at the Port of Cagayan de Oro and Xavier University Grade School in Macasandig today, June 25, 2025.

The meaningful event commenced at dawn at the Port of Cagayan de Oro with a Dressing of Ships and Blowing of Ship’s Horn, followed by a Floral Offering and Prayer for the Deceased Seafarers. This solemn tribute honored the invaluable contributions and sacrifices of Filipino seafarers, both past and present, who have brought pride and honor to the maritime industry.

The celebration continued at Xavier University Grade School, Macasandig with a program that gathered maritime stakeholders, government agencies, seafarers’ families, and partner organizations. PMO MOC personnel actively participated in the activities, which included an Ecumenical Celebration, the singing of the National Anthem, and welcome remarks delivered by MARINA’s OIC.

Notable speakers included Arsenio Dominguez, IMO Secretary-General (via message), and Sonia Malaluan, DOTr Undersecretary for Maritime. The program highlighted discussions on current maritime services and the Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers and Safe Spaces Act, ensuring protection and welfare for those working at sea.

PMO MOC also took part in the open forum and witnessed the closing remarks delivered by the Acting Port Manager of PMO MOC, reaffirming the agency’s support to the maritime community and its continuous commitment to safeguarding the rights and welfare of Filipino seafarers.

The Day of the Filipino Seafarer is an annual celebration declared under Presidential Proclamation No. 183 (2011), recognizing the vital role of seafarers in global trade, transportation, and nation-building. PMO MOC remains steadfast in honoring their contributions and advocating for their welfare in every port under its care.
