The Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO MOC) conducted its 2025 Annual Ambient Water Quality Test at the Port of Cagayan de Oro on 24 January 2026. This activity forms part of PMO MOC’s commitment to the Integrated Management System (IMS), the Green Port Award System (GPAS), compliance with the Environmental Compliance Certificate (ECC) and in celebration of Zero Waste Month 2026. The water quality testing focused on marine areas at Berths 1, 5, 10, and 15 to assess the impact of port operations on surrounding waters. A DENR-recognized laboratory collected and analyzed the samples to ensure compliance with established environmental standards.
Simultaneously, PMO MOC carried out its Annual Ambient Air and Noise Quality Monitoring at the Baseport of Cagayan de Oro. The monitoring was facilitated by the PMO MOC Environmental Specialist and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)-recognized laboratory staff. Air quality monitoring focused on parameters such as total suspended particles, sulfur oxide, and nitrous oxide to evaluate the atmospheric impact of port activities. This activity was conducted in compliance with the Philippine Clean Air Act, which aims to ensure clean and healthy air for the public.
In addition to ambient monitoring, PMO MOC also conducted water effluent testing at the Wastewater Treatment Facility located within the PMO MOC Powerhouse. The effluent testing was undertaken to assess the quality of treated wastewater prior to discharge and to ensure compliance with applicable environmental regulations and effluent standards. This activity supports the proper management of wastewater generated within port facilities and helps prevent potential contamination of surrounding water bodies.
The conduct of water, air, noise, and effluent quality monitoring underscores PMO MOC’s commitment to environmental sustainability and responsible port operations. Through regular monitoring and compliance with national environmental standards, the office ensures that port activities minimize environmental impacts while supporting sustainable development in Cagayan de Oro. This proactive approach reflects PMO MOC’s dedication to balancing operational efficiency with environmental stewardship.
