As part of the ongoing implementation of the Integrated Management System (IMS) and the Green Port Award System (GPAS), the Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO MO/C) successfully conducted its 1st Semester Water Effluent Test on June 17, 2025, at the Wastewater Treatment Facility located within the PMO MO/C Powerhouse. The activity was facilitated by the PMO MO/C Environmental Specialist and carried out by a staff member from the Port Services Division (PSD). Water samples collected during the test were then submitted to a DENR-recognized environmental laboratory for comprehensive analysis to ensure compliance with environmental standards.

The Port of Cagayan de Oro performs water effluent testing twice a year to ensure that wastewater discharged from the powerhouse complies with national environmental standards. This initiative is aligned with Republic Act (RA) No. 9275, also known as the Philippine Clean Water Act of 2004, which mandates the protection and conservation of the country’s water bodies against pollution from commercial, industrial, and agricultural activities.

Semestral water effluent monitoring plays a critical role in the Port’s commitment to sustainable operations and environmental stewardship. By regularly conducting these quality assessments, the Port of Cagayan de Oro aims to ensure that its discharge processes remain environmentally responsible and fully compliant with regulatory standards—ultimately contributing to the preservation of water resources and public health.
