The Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO MOC) spearheaded a Maritime Environmental Protection Information Drive on August 22, 2025, as one of the kick-off activities for the 26th National Maritime Week Celebration. The event was held in collaboration with key maritime stakeholders, including the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), and Oroport Cargohandling Inc.

The activity featured PO1 Luigi Myles Hope R. Mojica of the Marine Environmental Protection Enforcement and Response Group (MEPERG) – Northern Mindanao, as the resource speaker. PO1 Mojica opened his session by presenting a series of informative videos highlighting the initiatives of Task Force Ingat Yamang Dagat. The presentation emphasized the PCG’s environmental protection efforts, inter-agency collaborations, and active engagement with coastal communities to safeguard marine resources. Moreover, in support of the agency’s commitment to sustainability, PMO MOC also showcased a video on the Blue Port Initiative, promoting eco-friendly practices and sustainable operations within the port environment.

PO1 Mojica further provided an overview of key environmental laws and policies, particularly Republic Act No. 9003, or the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act, and the PCG Regulations on the Prevention of Pollution from Garbage. These discussions highlighted the critical role of maritime stakeholders in upholding environmental compliance and preventing marine pollution.

To formally recognize the valuable contribution of the guest speaker, a Certificate of Appreciation was awarded to PO1 Mojica, presented by the Port Services Division Manager and the Environmental Specialist. The program concluded with heartfelt closing remarks from the Environmental Specialist, expressing gratitude to all participants and reinforcing PMO MOC’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and maritime sustainability.

This initiative reflects PMO MOC’s proactive role in raising environmental awareness and fostering stronger cooperation among maritime stakeholders in the protection and preservation of the marine environment.
