The Philippine Ports Authority Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PPA PMO MOC) joined the 2026 Month of the Ocean (MOO) Simultaneous Coastal Clean Up on May 21, 2026, at 5:00 AM along the Coastal Road shoreline in Barangay Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City. Organized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) under the theme, “Sustaining Ocean Health, Sailing a Resilient Nation,” the activity aimed to encourage environmental responsibility and strengthen cooperation among different sectors in protecting coastal and marine resources. A total of 24 personnel from PPA PMO MOC participated in the activity together with volunteers from Oroport Cargo Handling Services Incorporated, City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO), Barangay Lapasan Officials, and other partner agencies.
The MOO is celebrated every May to raise awareness on the importance of protecting the country’s oceans, seas, and coastal areas. It also serves as a reminder of the shared responsibility of communities, government agencies, and organizations in preserving marine ecosystems and promoting sustainable environmental practices for future generations.
Before the clean-up started, all volunteers gathered at the Barangay Lapasan Covered Court for a short orientation. Representatives from DENR discussed the proper procedures for the coastal clean-up and explained how to accomplish the Trash Data Form for proper waste documentation. Participants were also reminded about the importance of reducing marine pollution and maintaining clean shorelines.
After the briefing, the volunteers proceeded to their assigned areas along the Coastal Road shoreline. Working together, the participants collected different kinds of waste scattered along the coast to help prevent trash from reaching the sea and causing further harm to marine life.
The PPA PMO MOC team was able to collect 10 sacks of trash during the activity. All collected waste was properly documented and recorded through the Trash Data Form that was submitted to the DENR.
The active participation of Philippine Ports Authority PMO MOC in the 2026 Month of the Ocean celebration highlights the office’s strong commitment to environmental protection, coastal preservation, and sustainable development. Beyond maintaining safe and efficient port operations, PMO MOC continues to support initiatives that help protect marine ecosystems and promote environmental awareness within the community. Through activities like the simultaneous coastal clean-up, the office reaffirms its dedication to working hand in hand with government agencies, local stakeholders, and partner organizations in building cleaner coastlines, healthier marine environments, and a more resilient future for the next generations.
