The Philippine Ports Authority – PMO Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PPA PMO MO/C) actively participated in the Payao Deployment Ceremony held on April 16, 2026, at Equi Parco, Punta, Macabalan, Cagayan de Oro City, together with Pilipinas Shell Foundation Inc. (PSFI), Shell Pilipinas Corporation, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Regional Office 10, the Philippine Coast Guard, the Maritime Police, the Local Government Unit of Cagayan de Oro, and the Fisherfolk Association. The event brought together key stakeholders to support the deployment of Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs), locally known as Payao, for the benefit of registered fisherfolk from Barangays Puntod and Macabalan.
The Payao deployment initiative involves the strategic installation of Fish Aggregating Devices (FADs), which are floating structures anchored at sea designed to attract fish and facilitate easier location of fishing grounds. This intervention enables fisherfolk to reduce time and fuel consumption spent in search of catch, thereby enhancing fishing efficiency and productivity. Spearheaded by the Office of the City Agriculturist – Aquatic Resources Management Division in collaboration with PSFI, the project advances sustainable fishing practices, strengthens resource management, and supports more stable livelihood opportunities for coastal communities.
The activity commenced with registration and a blessing, followed by the opening program and presentation of the project rationale. Messages of support delivered by partner agencies and local officials highlighted the value of inter-agency collaboration in promoting sustainable fisheries. The program culminated in the formal turnover and deployment of the Payao units, marking a meaningful milestone in the continued strengthening of the local fishing industry.
PPA PMO MO/C remains firmly committed to the continuous support and active coordination of initiatives such as the Payao program, reinforcing its role in advancing sustainable fisheries, maritime safety, and environmental stewardship. Through sustained collaboration with partner agencies and stakeholders, the Office ensures that programs of this nature are effectively implemented and aligned with long-term community development goals. Guided by its mandate of public service, PPA PMO MO/C continues to champion efforts that deliver meaningful and lasting benefits to Filipino coastal communities.
