The Philippine Ports Authority – PMO Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro successfully conducted its Annual Emergency Preparedness Training on Earthquake and Fire on 18 and 19 November 2025. To ensure smooth implementation and full participation, the entire workforce was strategically divided into two batches, with each group completing the full set of training activities on their assigned day.

77 regular personnel were in attendance, while 15 Contract of Service (COS) personnel—particularly those under the First Aid Committee of PMO MO/C—also participated. To accommodate personnel assigned in the Terminal Management Offices (TMOs), the activity adopted a blended approach: TMOs joined via Webex, while COS personnel stationed at the baseport attended the sessions face-to-face. This ensured that both batches received the same level of engagement and learning regardless of their mode of participation.

The training underscored critical concepts on earthquake and fire preparedness, focusing on updated safety protocols, preventive measures, and effective response strategies during emergencies. Valuable insights were shared by the invited resource speakers from the Office of Civil Defense (OCD) Region X and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) Region X, who provided technical guidance and real-world perspectives essential to strengthening PMO MO/C’s readiness.

Given the growing relevance of disaster preparedness in today’s environment, the sessions proved especially timely. Personnel raised several practical questions, and it was highly beneficial that these were thoroughly addressed by the resource speakers. Important reminders—including simple yet often overlooked safety measures—were emphasized, reinforcing the critical role of awareness and preparedness in ensuring safety within port operations.
