In line with the national observance of Linggo ng Katandaang Filipino or Elderly Filipino Week (EFW), the Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO CDO) has launched a week-long celebration to honor the contributions and legacy of the elderly.
Held every first week of October under Proclamation No. 470 (1994), EFW recognizes the vital role of older persons in nation-building and advocates for their rights and welfare. To mark the occasion, PMO Cagayan de Oro has organized several meaningful activities throughout the week. The “Gintong Alaala: Pagpupugay sa Ating Nakatatanda” features a lobby photo exhibit showcasing the lives and legacies of senior citizens, complemented by a space where staff and visitors can post heartfelt messages of appreciation. Meanwhile, “Songs of Yesterday, Melodies of Today” (October 2–7, 2025) fills the office with classic Filipino and international songs that celebrate nostalgia and cultural heritage, creating a warm and reflective atmosphere for everyone.
Adding to the week’s highlights was “Pelikulang Pampamilya, Handog sa Nakatatanda,” held on October 3, 2025. The special film showing brought joy and nostalgia to senior citizens and employees, featuring family-centered and inspirational movies that celebrated love, unity, and respect across generations.
Another activity was “Gintong Pamana: A Tribute to the Elderly,” held on October 6, 2025. The short yet meaningful program includes harana, presentation of token and heartfelt messages of gratitude, reflecting PMO Cagayan de Oro’s deep respect and appreciation for the wisdom and enduring contributions of the elderly.
