In a proactive move to promote employee well-being and address growing concerns around workplace stress, the Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO MOC) conducted a Hybrid Seminar on Burnout and Common Health Problems in the Workplace. The event took place in two separate sessions—one in the morning and another in the afternoon—to accommodate all personnel while ensuring meaningful engagement on August 1, 2025.
The seminar was facilitated by Dr. Frances Mae O. Gumapon Lua MD DSBPP, a well-respected expert in the field of mental health and wellness. Her insights focused on the challenges modern employees face, especially in high-pressure environments.
Dr. Lua discussed the prevalence of burnout, describing it as an occupational phenomenon that can arise from chronic workplace stress. She emphasized how it manifests through symptoms like emotional exhaustion, detachment, and decreased sense of accomplishment. These issues, she noted, can significantly affect both individual employees and organizational productivity.
In addition to identifying symptoms and risk factors, Dr. Lua provided practical strategies to help participants manage stress, build resilience, and maintain mental well-being. She also highlighted the importance of organizational support in promoting a healthy work environment.
PMO MOC’s initiative to conduct this seminar underscores its commitment to creating a safe, supportive, and healthy workplace for all personnel. The office hopes that by investing in employee education and support, they can foster a culture of wellness that will positively impact both the workforce and the services they provide to the public.
