The Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) Port Management Office of Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro (PMO MOC) joined the maritime community in the observance of the 27th National Maritime Week (NMW) 2026 through the Wreath-Laying Ceremony and Blowing of Shipโ€™s Horns, Holy Eucharistic Mass, and Opening Program held on September 21, 2026, at the Passenger Terminal Building, Port of Cagayan de Oro. The activity was conducted as part of the nationwide celebration honoring Filipino seafarers and recognizing the vital role of the maritime industry in the countryโ€™s economic development, transportation, international trade, and national progress. The activity was participated by PPA, MARINA, PCG, Capitol University, Stella Maris, Shipping Companies, Harbor Pilots, Tug Services, other Port and Maritime Stakeholders.
The celebration carries the International Maritime Organization (IMO) World Maritime Day theme, โ€œFrom Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence.โ€ The theme emphasizes the importance of putting maritime policies, standards, and regulations into actual practice. It highlights the shared responsibility of government agencies, port authorities, shipping companies, seafarers, and other stakeholders in promoting safe, secure, efficient, and environmentally responsible maritime operations.
This yearโ€™s celebration is hosted by MARINA-X, with the participation of various maritime stakeholders in Cagayan de Oro, including representatives from the Local Government Unit of Cagayan de Oro (LGU-CDO), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Stella Maris Philippines, Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), Safe Seas Shipping Agency Co., Inc., Shell Pilipinas Corporation, Oroport Cargo Handling Services, Inc., Capitol University, shipping lines, and other partners in the maritime industry.
At the Opening Ceremony, Port Manager Fernando B. Mapalo, Jr. delivered an inspiring message of support celebrating the resilient and unwavering spirit of the maritime community; aligning his keynote message to this year’s theme.
In keeping with this spirit, the PPA PMO MOC remains one with its partner agencies, maritime organizations, industry players, the academe, and other stakeholders in supporting programs and activities that promote safety and security, efficient port operations, environmental protection, and the welfare of seafarers and maritime workers. Through continued cooperation and coordination, we can make our shared efforts more responsive to the needs of the maritime community.
From policy to practice, let us continue working together for a safer, stronger, and more resilient Philippine maritime industry.
