The construction and development of the Port of Opol is one of the big infrastructure projects under the 7 Pillars of Port Development of PPA PMO Misamis Oriental/Cagayan de Oro. The project was pushed by the PMO with the support of the port stakeholders, to alleviate the existing port congestion at the Port of Cagayan de Oro and to ease up the congestion in the roads of Cagayan de Oro and West coast highways.
The construction works commenced last March 2017 and completed on 02 June 2019. The Port was inaugurated on 15 June 2019.
Situated at Brgy. Luyong Bonbon in Opol, Misamis Oriental and is 15 kilometers away from the Port of Cagayan de Oro (Baseport), the Port of Opol will serve as an alternate port for domestic tramping vessels with a length overall (LOA) of 60-70 meters calling at the Baseport carrying break bulk cargoes coming from the western part of Misamis Oriental and Iligan City. This would help in hastening the delivery/transport/loading of cargoes coming from the west of the Province, and subsequently aids in the reduction of the vessels’ waiting/standby time and thereby increase port productivity.
Within the Port Zone Delineation area of 255,601.00 sq.m., the Port will have the following facilities:

- R.C. Wharf (18.00 x 123.00 m.)
- Back –Up Area (10,828.83 sq.m.)
- 6 units – Floodlight Pole 250w High-Pressure Sodium
- 7 units – 35 tons T-Head Bollard
- 14 units – V-Type Rubber Dock Fender (1500x500mm)
The Port of Opol was conferred with Statement of Compliance of a Port Facility Certificate by the Office of Transportation Security, with validity until October 2025.
